The Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amplifier of the mid 1960s produced a uniquely glassy and characterful tone that’s sonic benefits are still being utilized by guitarists like Dan Auerbach, Beck, Dave Grohl, and more. And now, courtesy of Jackson Audio, all of that classic character is available right on your pedalboard! The 1484 Twin Twelve Pedal is a dead-on-accurate re-creation of both the original amp’s tone and style, right down to the crystal red lens cap. The 2-band EQ makes enhancing that hearty low end or mixing in some bell-like treble a cinch, while the gain control unearths the realistic breakup of the Twin Twelve cabinet.
The original amp by Silvertone boasted a warn tube tone that was round and glassy in its cleanest form, and that’s just what you’ll find when you run the 1484 Twin Twelve Pedal through your rig. The ever-present low end and midrange of the classic amp just comes alive, but when you’re looking for some high end, you’ll receive the rounded stature of the Silvertone’s more bell-like treble tone. Bright, but not brilliant — extraordinarily true to the original!
In terms of drive, this pedal mimics the amp beautifully, as the Gain control offers a gradual distortion just like the natural breakup of the cabinet would ordinarily emit. Guitarists immediately noticed the natural roar of a true 2 x 12-inch from within the 1484 Twin Twelve Pedal, steering clear of any campy over-saturation that would otherwise transform the pedal into something it isn’t trying to be. Additionally, the beauty of cranking the Gain and fading the Volume is that you’ll unleash that growling, bluesy, tube-like, early rock ‘n’ roll distortion without having to crank a legitimate 60-watt 2 x 12-inch cabinet to window-shattering volumes. (Though there’s always a time and place for that!)
On top of sounding fantastic on its own, the 1484 Twin Twelve Pedal is equally great for injecting some warm analog character into the rest of your pedal chain. EQ your setup with ease or use this stomp box as a studio-grade preamp or boost. Even for those who may own an original Silvertone 1484, this can serve as your perfectly catered overdrive footswitch that never existed!
